Choral Celebration

To launch its inaugural season, Umculo│Cape Festival brought together six choirs from different communities in Cape Town and Johannesburg for the Cape Festival’s Choral Celebration concert, filmed by Studio Film TV and broadcast on ARTE TV to a viewership of over a million in Europe.

Noye´s Fludde

The choirs of Hlengisa Primary School and Kenmere Primary School formed the basis for the Cape Festival’s 2010 concert performance of Benjamin Britten’s children’s opera “Noye’s Fludde”. They were joined by soloists from the Chamber Choir of South Africa, young instrumentalists from the Hout Bay Music Project Trust, four leading members of Norwegian chamber orchestra the Trondheim Soloists, Venezuela’s Millennium Quartet, and Dutch conductor Jurjen Hempel for this performance.

Darling Music Experience

Umculo│Cape Festival´s partnership with the Darling Music Experience included two chamber music performances – in 2010, Venezuela’s Millennium Quartet played for the Darling Music Experience’s “Music for All” programme, and in 2011, Hans Huyssen and Tinashe Chidanyika presented South African music as part of the Festival’s opening concert.
